iOS 19 development is behind schedule

Apple Intelligence is one of the key features of iOS 18. However, difficulties with the launch of some AI-based features are affecting the development timeline for the next major iOS update.

Traditionally, Apple announces its new operating systems as part of its annual summer WWDC conference. They become available to users in September or October. However, this year everything went a little off plan — some of the features announced in the summer will only be available in 2025.

According to Mark Gurman, the gradual deployment of Apple Intelligence affects the timing of the development of iOS 19. The insider notes that many developers and engineers who should already be working on the next major update are still involved in the development of iOS 18. Apparently, they will help deploy various parts of Apple Intelligence until the release of iOS 18.4. According to rumors, this update will be released in March or April of next year.

Apple's new approach to implementing features will lead to the fact that iOS 19, like its predecessor, will have limited functionality at launch. All the innovations promised at WWDC 2025 may become available to users only in the spring of 2026.
