Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos: prayers on the holiday

On November 21, believers celebrate one of the biggest Christian holidays – the Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, also known as the Third Immaculate.

This holiday , which used to be celebrated on December 4 according to the old calendar, is a symbol of the spiritual beginning of the Virgin Mary and an important moment in her life. Radio MAXIMUM collected prayers on the day of the Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos in one material.

History of the holiday

The parents of the Virgin Mary, Joachim and Anna, had prayed for many years for the gift of a child. Their sincere prayers were heard, and God blessed the couple with the birth of a girl. However, in return for this joy, they made a vow to give their firstborn to the service of the Lord.

When Mary was three years old, her parents fulfilled their promise by taking her to the Jerusalem Temple. This moment was a real miracle: the little girl climbed the temple stairs on her own, overcoming 15 steps. The priests greeted her with solemnity and even led her to the Holy of Holies – a place where no one except the high priest was allowed to enter.

In the temple, Mary spent her childhood, learning about spirituality and service, until she became engaged to Joseph. It is this day that went down in history as the Feast of the Introduction.

Traditions of the Introduction

People also call the holiday “the gate of winter”, because it marks the beginning of winter rituals and holidays. Believers observe certain traditions on this day:

  • Visit the church. People come to the church to pray and put a candle in front of the icon of the Holy Mother of God.
  • Communion and confession. Spiritual cleansing through church sacraments is important.
  • Weakening of fasting. Although the Christmas fast continues, on this day it is allowed to taste fish, dishes with oil and a little church wine.

What not to do on the Introduction

Believers observe certain prohibitions on this day. In particular, you must not:

  • perform heavy household work (cleaning, washing, sewing);
  • argue or curse;
  • organize loud parties.< /li>

Such prohibitions are designed to help focus on the spiritual aspect of the holiday.

The power of prayer on the Third Pure

On the day of the Presentation, prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos have special power. They ask her for protection, help in difficult circumstances, atonement for sins and peace of mind. Young women who dream of becoming mothers especially often turn to the Theotokos, asking for the blessing of giving birth to a child.

Prayer for help in trouble

My Queen, all-good, my hope and refuge, joy of the sorrowful, support of the forsaken! Take away my troubles, take away my sorrow, help me, the weak, to find strength and faith to withstand adversity. Having softened my longing, comfort my heart and do not let me stray from the right path. Amen.

Prayer for protection and intercession

Queen of Heaven, my stronghold and my hope, turn your gaze on me and do not deny my sincere request for protection. Don't leave me to my own devices, take the troubles away from me and my loved ones. Do not allow yourself to fall into the devil's trap and beware of his followers. Give your protection and blessing by softening hearts and planting compassion in them. Amen.

Prayer for the Atonement of Sins

Mother of God, I call upon your help and trust in you. You see my weakness, so grant me correction and teach me to love the Lord with all my soul and mind. Grant me your grace, mercifully, and grant me the diligence to live righteously. Bring my unworthy request to our father. Send me your blessing. Amen.

Prayer for the conception of a child

O All-Merciful, our Good Intercessor, blessed Theotokos, who knew the happiness of Motherhood, in which you accepted the excitement, hopes, anxieties and sorrows of all earthly mothers, do not leave the prayers of the servants of God (names) in vain and ask from Your Son and Lord for offspring and the continuation of our race, easy childbirth and a happy fate for the baby. Shine, Most Pure Mother, upon Your servants, united by a marital union and begging for your help, may Your mercy be upon them, may they be fruitful and may they see their sons' sons to the third and fourth generation and live to a desired old age, and enter the Heavenly Kingdom of Your Son and our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom all glory, honor and worship befits with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for marriage

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, accept this prayer from me, Your unworthy servant, and offer it to the Throne of God Your Son, and He will be merciful to our supplications. I resort to You as our intercessor: hear us who pray to You, cover us with Your protection, and ask God Your Son for all good things for us: spouses of love and harmony, children of obedience, offended patience, sorrowful composure, and for all of us intelligence and piety, mercy and meekness, purity and truth.

Save me from pride and self-love, give me diligence and bless my labors. As the Law of our Lord God commands people to live in an honest marriage, then lead me, Mother of God, to an honest and worthy man. Not to please my desire, but to fulfill the appointment of our Holy Father, because He Himself said: it is not good for a person to be alone, and created a wife for a man as a helper, blessed them to grow together, be fruitful and inhabit the earth.

Holy Mother of God , hear a humble prayer from the depths of my maiden heart: give me a hard-working, just and pious husband, so that in love with him and in harmony we glorify you and the merciful God: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Introduction to the temple of the Most Holy Theotokos is a day that symbolizes spirituality, faith and humility. His traditions help to remind everyone about the importance of prayer, family comfort and sincerity. This holiday is not only a tribute to history, but also an opportunity to think about one's own spiritual path and come closer to harmony with oneself and the world.
