Introducing a revolutionary panoramic tactical camera designed for military protection

The American technology company Bounce Imaging presented the Pit Viper 360 – a revolutionary panoramic tactical camera designed for the protection of the military in conditions of increased risk. This launch device will allow servicemen to collect important intelligence data from a safe distance, thereby minimizing the time spent in the danger zone.

With its compact size, the size of a grapefruit, the Pit Viper 360 is the world's first camera to combine six thermal imaging cores with an inertial measurement unit. Its robust design makes it suitable for various tactical tasks, in particular, for hostage rescue and armed confrontations.

The Pit Viper 360 thermal imager is built to withstand heavy loads. It can be thrown across the floor, rolled down stairs or thrown out of windows, thus providing operators with a view of the hazardous area without exposing themselves to direct risk. Thanks to its thermal imaging, it does a great job with a panoramic view, allowing soldiers to see heat signals from people or objects indoors.

This means that nearby military or law enforcement officers can estimate how many people are inside and monitor their movements. This capability is vital in situations where entering a building or space is too risky.

CTO Sitse Dijkstra explained the advantage of the camera: "Working directly in panoramic projection is several orders of magnitude more efficient than traditional methods, allows us to generate stabilized thermal panoramic video with low latency and very low [size, weight and power] requirements.

At the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) annual conference, Bounce Imaging demonstrated the versatility of the Pit Viper 360 by integrating it with Boston Dynamics' SPOT robot dog. The combination of these technologies increases operator safety during military or law enforcement missions, especially in environments that are difficult to navigate or too dangerous for humans. With SPOT's advanced navigation capabilities, the Pit Viper 360 provides better situational awareness, helping military units better understand their surroundings and make informed decisions. This synergy between the two technologies demonstrates the growing trend for unmanned systems to work together to improve mission success.

«It is becoming clear that the future of unmanned systems – it’s combining the efforts of different platforms to jointly use the strengths of each technology to accomplish the mission. Combining Bounce cameras with powerful UGVs like SPOT is a great example of this, – said Bounce Imaging COO Mark Fargason.

The Pit Viper 360 is expected to be available to both military and civilian customers by 2025. This launch marks a significant leap forward in the development of tactical technology, offering increased security for those in the line of duty. The combination of thermal imaging and the ability to cooperate with robotic systems such as SPOT provides a clear advantage in life-threatening situations, making it a highly anticipated product in the field of security and defense.
