Internet scammers defrauded a resident of Sumy region of 120 thousand hryvnias

A resident of Sumy region became a victim of fraudsters, losing a significant amount of money when buying a car online.

As reported by the Sumy region police, the man found an ad for the sale of a Volkswagen Touareg on one of the sites. Having contacted the seller, he agreed to deliver the car to Sumy. To speed up the process, the buyer transferred an advance payment of 120,000 hryvnias to the seller.

However, after some time, the «seller» reported that there were problems with customs clearance of the car at the border and asked to transfer an additional 50,000 hryvnias. Realizing that he was being deceived, the victim contacted the police.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud).

The police remind you: before making an advance payment for goods purchased online, you should carefully check the seller and demand additional guarantees. Do not rush to transfer money to unknown accounts, because the risk of becoming a victim of fraudsters is very high.
