The Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE) has been on an indefinite general strike since November 23.

Negotiations are intensifying between the government and the Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE), the day after an agreement ratified with the Federation of Education Unions (FSE), affiliated with the CSQ, and the x27;Provincial Association of Teachers of Quebec (QAPE).

Sources said the negotiation took place all night and continues on Saturday with the FAE. The parties, however, refuse to confirm whether it is a negotiation blitz.

The government had indicated that it wanted to go into a blitz , but the FAE had certain conditions to lend itself to this exercise. It is unknown whether these were accepted.

The details of the agreement between the government and the FSE, which specifically concerns working conditions in schools, will be presented only to members at the assembly in January, and revealed to the public thereafter.

Summoning teachers on the 25th or 26th [December] or between Christmas and New Year's Day is unthinkable, said the former president of the Confederation of National Unions (CSN) Jacques Létourneau on ICI RDI.

Several members, however, say they are concerned about the agreement and fear that the content will not be satisfactory.

Salary issues, social benefits and pensions still remain to be debated at the central, so-called intersectoral, table. These issues will need to be resolved in order to avoid the triggering of an indefinite general strike by the Common Front at the beginning of 2024.

On the side of negotiations with the Interprofessional Health Federation of Quebec (FIQ), there is little progress, despite the appointment of a conciliator a little earlier this week.
