The Kongsberg company decided to replace the AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar developed in the 1990s with a more modern radar. It will be created on the basis of GhostEye together with the American company Raytheon. Michael Mills, who heads the GhostEye program at Raytheon, told Defense News journalists about this.

GhostEye is part of the latest LTAMDS radar, which was developed by Raytheon engineers for the Patriot air defense system. At the moment, AN/MPQ-53 and AN/MPQ-65 radars are used in this complex to detect targets, the main drawback of which is the sector view. The LTAMDS radar will allow the Patriot air defense system to “see” 360-degree targets.
Equipping the NASAMS air defense system with the GhostEye radar means that the Norwegian complex will be able to guide missiles from Patriot launchers and vice versa. If necessary, the NASAMS air defense system will be able to equip the PU with MSE missiles to intercept “ballistics”. In addition, it will be possible to use cheap AIM-9X missiles to protect the Patriot.
