The British Geraint Thomas (Ineos) will attend the Tour de France, a race he won in 2018, with his morale boosted after his victory in the Tour of Switzerland, within a team that, according to the cyclist from Cardiff, is “prepared” to face the formations of the great favorites, the UAE of Pogacar and the Jumbo Visma of Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard.
After a start to the season without outstanding results, Thomas (Cardiff, 36 years old), feels back to the forefront of the peloton , trusts in its strength and in a team that will arrive with several candidates for the Tour de France that begins on July 1 in Copenhagen, among them the British Adam Yates, recently affected by the covid, and the Colombian Daniel Felipe Martínez.

Thomas spoke about Ineos' plans for the Tour
“The victory in Switzerland was important, and now I want to go to the Tour, give everything and do what I can. It's easy. I just want to go out there and run hard and do what I can. We have two other leaders in the team and I owe myself to them, whether it's to be in the general standings playing another card or going through stages or helping other teammates. I'll do whatever it takes, I'm happy to do whatever it takes. I'll take the risk, for sure, if the opportunity comes”, Thomas commented in Cycling Weekly.
From his extensive experience, Thomas knows the difficulty of facing great rivals such as the Slovenians Tadej Pogacar and Primož Roglic, as well as his teams, armored with high-level runners, but gives options to Ineos
“I think as a team we can challenge UAE and Jumbo, but man to man it's a different story. They are very talented and, as we all know, they have been the best in recent years. Anyway, I think we have a strong team. It's about getting to the Tour in good condition, we're all motivated and we're going to go there and give our best”, he commented.

Thomas is back in the deck for the title
For now, Geraint Thomas, who already won the Tour in 2018 and which was key to Egan Bernal's victory in 2019, will once again be in the Tour debate when it comes to talking about favorites and candidates for the podium. The victory in Switzerland puts him back on the front line.
