Eric Holcomb to Discuss Economic Exchanges and Meet with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen

Indiana's Republican Governor is on a visit to Taiwan after two visits by high-ranking US politicians that angered Beijing and became an occasion for China's military exercises.

Governor Eric Holcomb's visit will focus on economic exchanges, especially related to semiconductors.

He will also meet with President Tsai Ing-wen.

His visit comes at a particularly tense period in Taiwan-China-U.S. relations following the visit of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

China considers self-ruled Taiwan to be part of its territory and sees any contact the island has with foreign governments as an infringement on its sovereignty .

In response to Pelosi's visit, the Chinese military conducted a rocket firing exercise in the island area and the passage of warships through the middle Taiwan Strait line.

Following Pelosi, a delegation from the US Congress also visited Taiwan.
