The Ukrainian Shrove Tuesday week started on March 11 and will last until Sunday, March 17. After that, a long fast awaits us.
One of the main traditions of this holiday is the preparation of pancakes with various fillings (but without meat). During the ongoing full-scale war, the prices of products have undergone significant changes, including ingredients for pancakes, Slovo and Dilo write. The publication made an index of pancakes, which allows you to understand how much the prices have changed!
According to the traditional pancake recipe (calculated for 20 pieces), you usually need: 500 milliliters of milk, 3 eggs, 320 grams of flour, 20 grams of sugar, oil and butter, as well as 200 grams of sour cream.
In 2021 the cost of making 20 pancakes according to this recipe was 48.66 hryvnias. However, already in In 2022, prices increased by 17.82% to 57.33 hryvnias. This happened despite the fact that Masnytsia began on February 28, before the full price war cost was reflected.
In 2023, the cost of cooking 20 pancakes increased even more – by 28.65%, to 73.76 hryvnias. The price of almost all ingredients increased, including eggs, milk, sugar, oil and sour cream.

In 2024, the cost of making pancakes is almost the same as last year – 74.11 hryvnias (+0.48%). Compared to the year before the full-scale war, pancakes became one and a half times more expensive.
