In the village of Korchyn, Kostopil district, Rivne region, where a 13-kilogram catfish was previously caught, a fisherman pulled out a fish from the sturgeon family with a large nose that resembles an oar. The resource “Rivne Vechirnye” informs about this.
A fisherman named Roman pulled out a real monster weighing 6.2 kg from the reservoir.
Oarsman, or Polyodon spathula, is a freshwater fish of the sturgeon family, the only representative of the monotypic genus Veslonis, which feeds on plankton.
It lives mainly in Lake Erie and the Mississippi River, as well as in some rivers that flow into the Gulf of Mexico.
Oarlings have been mass-produced in Ukraine since 2000. They get along peacefully in common reservoirs with carp, crucian carp and white carp.
The maximum length of an adult in its natural environment reaches 2 m with a weight of 75 kg, but when grown “in captivity” A five-year-old fish gains a weight of only 6-7 kg. Ten-year-old paddlefish already weigh 25-30 kg each and can produce up to 3 kilograms of caviar, with a taste similar to that of red caviar.
