The sale of Google Pixel has been banned in Indonesia/Businessworld

Indonesia has banned the sale of Google Pixel phones. And it did it a few days after it did the same with the iPhone 16.

The reason remains the same – the company failed to provide 40% local content, so its devices will be blocked for sale in the country. This is reported by GSMArena.

Local newspaper Kontan reported that 22,000 Pixels have already been brought into the country via personal shipments or hand luggage, quoting a representative of the Ministry of Industry after the press briefing.

40% of local content must be provided through local production of products, local software development levels or creation of research and development centers at the local level. Some analysts believe that Indonesia applies such restrictive policies to attract more investment from foreign companies.

Indonesia is currently the largest economy in Southeast Asia with a GDP of over $1 trillion. It is a large smartphone market and is expected to have up to 350 million active mobile phones, far more than the country's population of 285 million.
