On January 1, 2025, thousands of people gathered in Centenary Square in Birmingham (UK), hoping to see a grand New Year's fireworks display. However, instead, they turned out to be deceived by scammers who spread fake messages about the event on social networks.
This is reported by the Daily Mail.
People's expectations were growing, but as they began to gather, West Midlands Police announced that the information about the fireworks was fabricated. Everyone who came to the square was disappointed to learn that there would be no festive show.
Earlier in the day, local police issued a warning, noting that the events mentioned in the rumors were not planned. Birmingham Police Chief Emlyn Richards urged people not to come to the city to avoid disappointment. However, fireworks went off in London.
