< p>The police arrested a 42-year-old woman who lived in the Varas district of the Rivne region, and drowned her two minor sons in the reservoir of the local quarry.
According to the Rivne regional prosecutor's office,  On August 23, 2023, a woman was on the shore of a reservoir of a former quarry with her sons, who were 7 and 6 years old, and decided to drown them.
It was established that she forcefully plunged her eldest son into the water and held him in this position until he stopped resisting. Having reached the shore, she took her younger son by the hand and led him to a wooden platform, under which there was a considerable depth, and pushed her into the water, knowing that he could not swim. At the same time, she stood on the same platform and contemplated the inevitability of drowning.
According to the police report, shortly after the incident, a 37-year-old father ran to the reservoir and was able to pull one of his sons out on his own. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the younger boy died. The second body was pulled out with the help of divers.
Investigators, together with specialized specialists, had a conversation with the woman. She confessed to the crime. She was charged with the intentional murder of her children. After the arrest, the woman is in a temporary detention facility.
According to the “Public Media” report, the tragedy took place in the village of Sopachyv.
The headman of the village, Serhii Boyko, who participated in resuscitation at the events of one of the children, told that the woman's behavior was unusual.
She was sitting, smiling stupidly. It can be seen that the roof has come off. We asked her: tell me, where is the second child? She didn't say at first. Then she said that she left him.
According to the data, until December 2022, the woman worked as an English teacher at a local lyceum. However, she resigned from her position, citing the fact that she cannot cope with all the challenges due to her condition.
Two boys, Mykhailo (age 6) and Daniil (age 7), who were to start school this fall first class of this lyceum, became victims of this tragedy.
