In the Netherlands, 14 cities want to implement “zero-emission zones” from next year

In the Netherlands, the municipalities of fourteen cities intend to ban cars older than 15 years from entering their city centers from January 1, 2025, thus creating so-called “emission-free zones”.

As Ukrinform reports with reference to NOS, at the same time, the majority in the parliament urges not to hurry with the innovation.

“Fourteen municipalities continue to work on creating an “zone without emissions” despite the call of the parliamentary majority not to hurry with such an innovation,” the message says.

It is noted that the first thing we are talking about is the ban on entry into city centers from January 1, 2025 of official cars, vans and trucks, that pollute the environment the most.

Municipalities in a joint statement in response to the proposal to postpone the introduction of “emission-free zones” until 2029 emphasized that they have the right to insist, as the discussion about these plans was carried out in advance in consultations with the government and business associations. Preparations for the innovation actually began 10 years ago.

As Ukrinform reported, in the Netherlands  to increase the demand for electric cars, a group of experts has developed an “incentive package” which should increase the number of electric cars to two million by 2030.< /p>

The Dutch government has adopted a plan for the long-term development of the country, which, among other things, provides for a ban on the sale of gasoline and diesel cars as early as 2030.
