In the event of a nuclear war between the Russian Federation and the United States, more than 5 billion people will die

Scientists from Rutgers University (New Jersey) conducted a global study on the consequences of a full-scale nuclear war between the Russian Federation and the United States.

Scientists have been working on calculations of how much soot that blocks the sun will be released into the atmosphere after the use of nuclear weapons. This data was fed into the Community Earth System Model (a climate prediction tool) to estimate the yields of major crops. The researchers also examined projected changes in livestock pastures and global marine fisheries.

The war between the Russian Federation and the United States is seen large, given the nuclear arsenals of both countries. The study found that more than 5 billion people would starve to death in such a nuclear war, as global food production would drop by 90% three to four years after the fighting.

In the smallest nuclear scenario, with a local war between India and Pakistan, the average global food production will decrease by 7% during five years of conflict.
