A 62-year-old woman from the Liberec region in the north of the Czech Republic lost 300 thousand crowns (over 12.3 thousand dollars) due to a fraudster who pretended to be a doctor on assignment in Ukraine.
This is reported by “European Pravda” with reference to Novinky.
The attacker met the woman on Facebook in September 2024. The two first corresponded on social media, and later – on WhatsApp.
The police say that the man called himself a doctor who works in Ukraine, and before that lived in London with his parents.
In early October, the “doctor” asked the woman for a favor – to take his personal documents and jewelry for safekeeping so as not to lose them in Ukraine, and asked her to pay 300 thousand Czech crowns for “transportation”.
“She realized that she had become a victim of a fraudster after Christmas and filed a criminal complaint against him”, – said the spokeswoman for the Czech Republic's police in the Liberec region, Ivana Balakova.
The 62-year-old victim lost all her savings and also has a debt of 130,000 Czech crowns including interest. Her case is being investigated by law enforcement.
