In Spain, Google Maps helped solve a murder

A man went missing in the Spanish city of Soria a year ago. Thanks to Google Maps, law enforcement officers found his body and the alleged killer.

Jorge Luis Pérez Ochandarena was reported missing a year ago. The Cuban-born man was found buried in the Andaluz cemetery on Tuesday, December 17.

The main suspect, who is already in custody, was identified thanks to images taken last October by a Google Maps truck that drives around and takes panoramic photos of the streets. The camera caught him carrying a large white package into the trunk of a burgundy car.

There is another clue from Google Maps: a second image showing a blurred silhouette of a man dressed in dark blue clothes pushing a large white package in a wheelbarrow at the end of a street in another part of the city.

The image ended up in the hands of the National Police, who used it as a lead, along with several cell phone messages and other evidence, leading to the arrest of two people on November 12 for the alleged murder and dismemberment of a Cuban citizen.

The Google Maps car gave police a “crucial” The National Police announced a clue, although not the only one, on Wednesday at a press conference dedicated to this case.
