In order to obtain Ukrainian citizenship, you will need to pass exams – MES

Compulsory exams must now be passed to acquire Ukrainian citizenship. Radio Maximum tells how it will happen.

In order to acquire Ukrainian citizenship, it is necessary to pass exams on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine and the history of Ukraine. This is reported by the Ministry of Education and Science.

From now on, persons who want to obtain Ukrainian citizenship must pass exams on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine and the history of Ukraine. This decision was adopted by the government and concerns:

  • foreigners;
  • persons without citizenship; , outstanding services to Ukraine, etc.).

Exams will consist of 20 tasks on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine and 25 tasks on the history of Ukraine strong>. Previously, in order to obtain Ukrainian citizenship, it was necessary to pass an exam only on the level of Ukrainian language proficiency.

Exams will be recorded on video, and after their successful completion, participants will receive certificates. The corresponding decision applies to foreigners, stateless persons, as well as those who have acquired citizenship, but have the right to take an exam within two years (taking into account the completion of military service under a contract, outstanding services to Ukraine, etc.).

However, conducting exams requires the further adoption and implementation of a number of orders, regulations and organizational measures. So far, only a principled decision has been adopted, say the Ministry of Education and Culture.

We would like to remind you that on March 21, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada adopted Law No. 7606 on the Conditions of Acceptance of Ukrainian Citizenship On Amendments to the Laws of Ukraine “On Citizenship of Ukraine” and “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language” regarding the conditions for acceptance into Ukrainian citizenship).

The draft law stipulates that in order to be accepted for citizenship, a person must pass exams on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine, the history of Ukraine, and an exam on the level of proficiency in the state language. Exams must be taken within two years from the moment of acceptance to Ukrainian citizenship.
