Odessa police officers detained a 21-year-old city resident for fraud. The man took out 13 loans for his beloved girlfriend, causing the victim material damage in the amount of more than 80,000 hryvnias. This is not his first crime. The court has an indictment for fraud committed by him against ten citizens. The perpetrator faces up to eight years in prison.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Police Department.
Law enforcement officers said that the 21-year-old resident of Odessa came to their attention back in September of last year, when a fellow student complained about him. Then the police established that the young man told his classmates, a girlfriend, and a teacher at the university where he studied, made up stories about personal problems, asked for money to borrow, laptops supposedly for preparing presentations and essays for studies, promising to return them, but not intending to do so. The damage caused to the victim amounted to more than 184 thousand hryvnias. This case is currently in court.
In December last year, his 18-year-old girlfriend contacted the police and said that the young man took her mobile phone, allegedly to use instant messengers, but in fact he went into her personal account in online banking and on the websites of financial companies and issued microloans in her name, misappropriating funds.
The police initiated criminal proceedings on this fact and established that within two months the attacker issued 13 loans in the girl's name for a total amount of over 80,000 hryvnias.
“We have collected a sufficient amount of evidence and The perpetrator was informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is about taking someone else's property by breach of trust, that is, fraud committed through illegal operations using electronic computing equipment, in particular repeatedly. The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the right to deposit bail in the amount of more than 600 thousand hryvnias. According to current legislation, the offender faces up to eight years in prison. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Odessa,” said V’yacheslav Kolbasenko, an investigator of the territorial police unit.
