The monument to Taras Shevchenko, located on the central square of Melitopol, Zaporozhye region, captured by Russian troops, was dismantled and taken away in an unknown direction by the occupying authorities of the city.

This was announced by the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov.

"The Gauleiters of Melitopol must have decided that by hiding the monument they would bury the resistance of the inhabitants. However, their "brilliant" the idea turned out to be a complete failure. The monument to Shevchenko, located on the central square of Melitopol, since 2014 has become a symbol of confrontation and the European choice of Melitopol residents. Residents came here during the Revolution of Dignity. And they came out here in February 2022 during during the occupation of the city", — said Ivan Fedorov.

According to him according to the inhabitants of Melitopol were so outraged by the dismantling of the monument that  ;the invaders had to make excuses and assured that the monument would not be destroyed — it will simply be moved.

"It will be moved to another place, and another Soviet statue. Yes let have some more fun. Let's go back — we return and everyone to their place to place to sit , — said Ivan Fedorov.
