In January-September, insurers' fees for VHI increased by 7.8%, payments - by 10% From IFX

Russian insurers increased the collection of premiums under voluntary medical insurance programs (VHI) for 9 months of this year by 7.8% compared to the same period in 2021, the figure amounted to 176.8 billion rubles, according to statistics from the Bank of Russia. At the same time, payments under VHI over the same period increased significantly – by 10%, and reached 112.5 billion rubles.

The average cost of an insurance policy in the VHI sector as a whole amounted to 17.5 thousand rubles, an increase of 5.9%.

The level of payments in the VMI segment slightly increased and amounted to 63.6%, while a year earlier this figure was 62.46%.

In the structure of VHI premiums, the largest share (78.8%, or 139.4 billion rubles) fell on the health insurance of employers of their employees, about 2.4% (or 4.2 billion rubles) fell on VHI of citizens traveling abroad and another 18.8% (or 33.2 billion rubles .) fell on VHI of other citizens.

The largest increase in premiums was observed in the line of corporate VHI – by 11.8%, fees for VHI of citizens traveling abroad increased by 6.9%, and for VHI programs for other citizens decreased by 6.1%.

During the period under review, insurers concluded 10.1 million contracts, which is 1.8% more than in January-September 2021. The number of insured persons in general under all concluded VHI agreements amounted to 26 million people, having decreased by 4.2%. Thus, on average in the sector, there were 2.6 insured persons per contract concluded. In particular, under corporate VHI programs per contract there are an average of 34 insured persons, under VHI for those traveling abroad – 1.8, under VHI for other citizens – also 1.8.

For 9 months of the year, 39.1 million insured events were reported to VHI insurers (an increase of 0.4%), 38.0 million insured events were settled (final insurance payments were made). Payments were refused in 11.9 thousand cases, which is 27.2% more than in the same period in 2021. The average payment for the sector as a whole amounted to 3.0 thousand rubles, an increase of 7.5%.
