Alfa Romeo Sprint – rally car restomod/carscoops
The classic Alfa Romeo Sprint is an intriguing restomod presented by the Portuguese engineering firm Alma. The latter specializes in the restoration and tuning of classics.
The Alfasud-based coupe has received a number of exterior, interior and mechanical updates inspired by a forgotten Group B rally car project that never materialized. This is what Carcoops writes.
In 1982, Autodelta developed a prototype Sprint rally car with a mid-engine layout and a wide body designed by Zagato. Unfortunately, the Sprint 6c did not make it to the Group B rally stages, although it fired the imagination of Alfa Romeo fans and sparked several independent conversions.
Fast forward to 2024 and we have a new restomod inspired by the canceled rally car. The Alma Sprint composite body has boxy fender flares, custom bumpers, stylish rearview mirrors and an integrated rear spoiler. The square round headlights received modern Hella projectors, mounted in a new aluminum body.with aluminum inserts. The Zagato steering wheel is paired with a custom aluminum shifter. Alma says the new seats and offset steering wheel have improved driving comfort, while the 4-point Sabelt seat belts add a motorsport-inspired look. Finally, a Bluetooth speaker appeared.
Alma Sprint does not have a mid-mounted V6 Busso rally prototype, but received more than a few mechanical component upgrades. The original's four-cylinder boxer engine has been bored out to 1.8 liters, with reworked heads, forged pistons, custom camshafts, a custom valvetrain, and a pair of Dellorto carburetors.
The modified powerplant produces 158 horsepower.< /strong>(118 kW/160 hp), which significantly exceeds the power of any production Sprint version, including the Quadrifoglio Verde. Note that the weight of the restomod is 880 kilograms, which means that the ratio of power to weight is quite apt. In addition, a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission can be optionally combined with a Torsen limited-slip differential on the front axle.
Among other upgrades are adjustable shock absorbers for better handling, larger ventilated discs and components of the “autosport class”.< /p>
Alma wants to produce 20 units of the Alfa Romeo Sprint restomod, each of which will be customized according to the owner's wishes from a “wide range of options”. The price is not disclosed, and the first deliveries are planned for the third quarter of 2024.
