The painting was accidentally lost.
At the airport in Dusseldorf, Germany, the police found a painting worth more than 330 thousand dollars in a trash can, Correspondent reports.
Authorship of the canvas belongs to the French artist Yves Tanguy (1900-1955), who became famous for his abstract surreal landscapes.
About the loss of her painting the owner stated on November 27.
“The painting was packaged in a flat cardboard box that businessman forgot at the airport check-in desk. He discovered the loss only when he was boarding a flight to Tel Aviv, ”the police said.
Upon arrival in Israel, the man contacted the airport authorities and, after an unsuccessful search for the canvas, attracted his nephew from Belgium to them, who went to Düsseldorf and filed a complaint with the local police.
The police commissioner assigned to investigate the case contacted the airport cleaning company and joined the search. While inspecting the recycling bins, the men found a work of art at the bottom of one of the containers.
Who threw the canvas in the trash is not known. The police returned the painting to its rightful owner.
In France, the Paris Court of Appeal ordered the Ministry of Culture of the country to return to the heirs of the Jewish collector René Gimpel three paintings that were stolen by the Nazis during World War II.
