Prominent Russian opposition politician Ilya Yashin was detained in Moscow on Monday , a lawyer representing the interests of the opposition and a Russian journalist said on their social media accounts.

Irina Babloyan, a journalist and host of the now defunct radio station Ekho Moskvy, said that Yashin was detained while they were walking together.< /p>

“Walked with my friend Ilya Yashin in the park, in Khamovniki. The police came up and took Ilya to no one knows where,” Babloyan wrote on Telegram.

Lawyer Vadim Prokhorov, who represented many figures of the Russian opposition, also said that Yashin was in custody in connection with alleged administrative offense in the form of disobedience to a police officer.
