Jesus announces the beginning of a new reality. His word, full of power and hope, creates everything anew, breathing new life into our souls.
Today, as in the times of His public ministry, the word of Jesus still illuminates our paths and brings solace to the soul. Deon.pl reminds us that in the Gospel according to St. In Matthew (Mt 4:12-17, 23-25) we see how, after the arrest of John the Baptist, Jesus returns to Galilee and begins his mission to preach the Gospel of the kingdom.
From the Gospel according to Matthew:
When [Jesus] heard that John was arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. But leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum by the lake, on the border of Zebulun and Naphtali. This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:
Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali.
The way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles!
The people who sat in darkness,
saw a great light,
and they who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
the light rose.
From that time Jesus began to teach and say, «Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.»
And Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. And news about him spread throughout all Syria. Then they brought to Him all who were sick with various diseases and infirmities, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and He healed them. And great crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
New Life in Galilee
Capernaum, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, becomes the place where Jesus teaches and heals. It is there, in everyday life, that miracles occur. Think about how much can be gained by asking for the grace to hear the word of the Lord “here and now”. Each of us can open ourselves to new possibilities and changes that His teaching brings. Let us live fully, listening to the voice of God who calls us to act and transform our lives.
In the face of evil, sin and the dominion of evil spirits, humanity found itself in a state of regression, surrounded by darkness. Darkness became the dominant reality, and man searched with fear for hope and meaning. In this difficult time, Jesus appears, announcing the beginning of a new reality in which his word has the power to create anew.
New life through the Word
The teaching of Jesus is like a ray of light that penetrates the darkest corners of our existence. His word illuminates the path, breathes new life into people's hearts, encouraging them to reject the darkness. Today, as then, each of us is invited to hear this word 'here and now'.
I therefore invite you to pray for the grace of openness to the Word of the Lord, thanking Him for calling us 'by name'. Together we can join in the great work of proclaiming the Good News. To express the mood of this moment, I will sing a carol that reminds me of the joy flowing from God's light.
