Melgar's campaign in the Copa Sudamericana continues and last Wednesday he drew against Deportivo Cali, visiting, in the first leg of the round of 16. Despite being away from home, those led by Néstor Lorenzo had a good presentation and were even able to win, a detail that was highlighted by Luis Iberico.
The 24-year-old Peruvian striker was one of the protagonists of the match, although he was not fine in front of the goal, on the occasions he had to score. “It was a very close match. We came to propose, as we do on all courts”, the attacker confessed to Directv Sports.
“It was too tough an opponent and I think we deserved to win, but it didn't happen. We will be lucky to close at home”, added the soccer player, who has scored two goals in nine matches in the current Copa Sudamericana.
Likewise, Luis Iberico highlighted the style of play imposed by the 'Rojinegros' in Colombia: “We expected a match like this, because we know the team and the confidence we have in each other. We've always played like this on the road and we knew we were going to have a good game”.
Finally, the striker from Melgar expressed his desire to achieve a double celebration in the coming days. “We have a date for the weekend in the local tournament, in which we seek to be champions, then we are going to Arequipa for the South American Cup, where we hope to win in the company of our people”, he concluded.
