Hyundai IONIQ 5: a new electric vehicle on the way
|Hyundai has just unveiled the first official images of its upcoming IONIQ 5 electric crossover. It is the production version of the Hyundai 45 concept presented in Frankfurt in September 2019.
IONIQ is the Korean manufacturer’s new sub-brand for its electric vehicles and the 5 will be its first representative. Different from the current Hyundai IONIQ, its recently unveiled Global Electric Modular Platform (E-GMP) will be used by several other models to come.
In the dark images provided by Hyundai, we can see that the IONIQ 5 largely retains the concept’s angular silhouette. Another distinctive feature is the headlights and rectangular “pixel” lights.

It is the first Hyundai vehicle to have a hood type clamshell, that is to say that it is integrated with part of the front fenders. Also, notice the side mirrors: their extremely small size suggests that they are in fact cameras connected to screens on board – something that is not yet seen on production vehicles.
And good news: the spectacular rims of the concept are preserved too. On their own, they should attract a lot of buyers. Their diameter is 20 inches. Hyundai does not say at this time whether other wheel models will be available.

We also learn that the IONIQ 5 can be used as a 3.5 kilowatt generator to power electrical devices operating on 110 or 220 volts, which could certainly be practical when camping or at a party before. -match.
When it comes to recharging the vehicle, Hyundai says five minutes will be enough to regain nearly 100 kilometers of range.
The world premiere of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be virtual in February, so don’t miss it!
