Jordan Staal resumed training with his Carolina Hurricanes teammates on Tuesday following his positive COVID-19 test.
Staal said he felt great after enduring chills and coughing episodes.
He was the first of six Hurricanes players whose names were placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 blackout list, leading to the team’s three-game postponement.
Staal’s name was still on that list on Monday, along with those of Jesper Fast, Warren Foegele, Jordan Martinook, Jaccob Slavin and Teuvo Teravainen.
In principle, the Hurricanes are due to play their next game this Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Staal said he was “the first guy to test positive” and confessed he “was as surprised as anyone – in shock, actually” after being told.
He says he tried to act safely and follow health protocols before he tested positive.
