(Detroit) Nino Niederreiter scored early in the first period and Petr Mrazek only had to make 14 saves to get a shutout, helping the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Detroit Red Wings 3-0.
Ryan Dzingel, on the power play with just 2:34 to go, and Andrei Svechnikov, in an empty net, completed the scoring for the winners.
Wings goalkeeper Thomas Greiss made just one save before giving in to Niederreiter, but ended the game with 40 saves.
The Hurricanes dominated 43-14 in shots. The Wings stayed in the game because of Greiss’ brilliance.
