Hungary and Russia's Gazprom have agreed on a possible increase in Russian gas supplies to this EU country.
As the country's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated during a gas forum in Russia's St. Petersburg and Russia's Gazprom, the task and responsibility of the Hungarian government is to ensure that the country's energy supply is secure in the long term and that it is carried out at a competitive price.
He emphasized that in 2024, the country will receive only 6.7 billion cubic meters of Russian gas.
Szijjarto said that on Thursday, October 10, the Hungarian state energy company MVM and Gazprom signed an agreement to maintain this practice, which, in his words, is favorable for Hungary. Russia's Gazprom, for its part, said that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Thursday regarding the possibility of increasing Russian gas supplies to Hungary.

“Many people cannot fully appreciate its importance, because, fortunately, they have not had to experience a lack of energy security,”– the Hungarian Foreign Minister noted.
He boasted that if Hungary had “succumbed to friendly and allied pressure” and “did not dare to build the Turkish Stream”, then today they would be in “huge trouble”, because the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will be stopped on January 1.
“Thanks to the 20 million cubic meters delivered per day, we can buy more gas through the Turkish Stream than in the whole of last year”, Szijjarto noted.
