How to properly charge a laptop: useful tips that you might not know

No matter how you say it, the autonomy of laptops still leaves much to be desired. Therefore, I want to share a few tips on how to properly charge your laptop so that it lasts longer.

So when you first buy a laptop, it's usually 40-50% charged. The first thing I do — I charge it to 100%, and then discharge it to 10%. This helps to properly calibrate the battery so that it will work properly in the future.

You should not wait for the laptop to turn off by itself from a full discharge. This is really harmful to the battery, because it can go into a deep discharge state, and then the laptop will not want to charge or will charge incorrectly. If a low battery warning appears on the screen – it is better to end work and connect the charger. This way you will not damage the battery and save your data.

As for charging, I always try to use the original charger. Universal chargers that are sold everywhere may not be suitable and may even damage the battery. If your laptop supports charging via USB Type-C, it is important that the charger is suitable in terms of power. If you can't guess with this, it is better not to risk it at all.

Do not forget about the temperature. If your laptop is overheated, it is better not to charge it right away. Wait for it to cool down. The same applies to the cold: if you have come from the street in the cold, you should not immediately turn on the laptop. Give it at least 30 minutes for the device to adapt to room temperature. This will reduce the risk of any unpleasant surprises.

Also, be sure to check your charging cable and power supply. This is not only for safety, but also so that you do not get into a situation where a damaged cable causes the laptop to fail and you have to carry it for expensive repairs. If the charger overheats or there is a smell of burnt plastic, it is better to replace the power supply in order not to get into an unpleasant situation.

Regarding constant charging — now laptops are smart, they automatically turn off charging when the battery reaches 100%. Therefore, you can keep it charged without any problems. In addition, the fewer complete discharge-charge cycles, the longer the battery will last.
