How to make Android smartphone screen brighter and battery life longer

The correct setting of the “Adaptive brightness” function will make using the gadget many times more pleasant, especially outdoors.

< p>Adaptive Brightness will not only help users better interact with their Android smartphones in different lighting conditions, reducing eye strain, but also extend battery life. How to use it, tells the Android Police site.

Why you need to set adaptive brightness

With adaptive brightness, users don't have to manually adjust brightness levels when they're outside on a sunny day or using their phone in a dark room. If the feature is not working properly, resetting it should help resolve the issues.

Adaptive brightness relies on built-in sensors, which may be too sensitive. It adjusts periodically based on how users interact with the brightness slider in Quick Settings. Adaptive brightness should not be confused with automatic brightness. The latter changes brightness depending only on the ambient light.

Resetting Adaptive Brightness to “Default” is an important troubleshooting step and forces the feature to recalibrate and adapt to user preferences and ambient light conditions.

Adaptive Brightness is part of the Device Health Services app, the reset button is on information page of the application in the settings menu. Some Google Pixel devices and some smartphones from other manufacturers do not have this dedicated button.

To reset the function, you need to go to “Settings” — “Applications” — scroll through the list of applications or find Device Health Services and tap — click “Storage and cache” — select “Space management” — “Reset adaptive brightness” — Click OK to confirm and save your selection. The feature will return to factory default settings.

Clear Adaptive Brightness Data

If the adaptive brightness reset method does not work, you need to clear cache and storage data. It is done like this: in the list of applications, select “Device health services” — “Clear all data” — “OK” to confirm the action.

This option should be considered as a last resort. Everything in the Device Health Services app, including battery statistics, will be deleted when the button is clicked.

How to turn off Adaptive Brightness

Adaptive Brightness can be annoying in frequently changing lighting conditions. The function can be turned off. Owners of Samsung smartphones can do this in the quick settings panel. Owners of Google Pixels and other models need to go to “Settings” — “Display” — toggle the switch next to Adaptive Brightness to off.

To turn off Adaptive Brightness in Quick Settings, swipe down on the screen to fully expand the Quick Settings panel. Tap the three-dot icon next to the brightness bar. Click the toggle next to Adaptive Brightness.
