How to improve mobile internet speed: effective tips

By following these tips, you can improve your mobile internet speed, regardless of your carrier and smartphone model.

Almost everyone has encountered the problem of slow mobile internet — when YouTube videos take too long to load, and messages in messengers are sent with a delay.

What can help solve this problem, GSMinfo told.

Main reasons for slow 4G

Several factors can affect the speed of mobile Internet:

  • poor network coverage;
  • overloaded base stations;
  • limitations of the smartphone itself;
  • a large number of background applications;
  • physical obstacles (walls, weather conditions).

What to do to improve the’connection

First of all, you should try the simplest actions:

  • Restart the phone – this helps to eliminate temporary glitches.
  • Switch between 4G and 3G – sometimes 3G can work more stably in areas with high network load.
  • Turn Airplane mode on and off – this forces the smartphone to re-find the best available network.
  • Use Wi-Fi at home to reduce the load on mobile traffic.

Settings for Android

For better Internet performance on smartphones with Android system, it is recommended:

  • set the preferred connection (4G or 5G) in the mobile network settings;
  • clear the mobile network cache in the SIM Toolbox section;
  • change the DNS to Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) for a more stable connection.

Settings for iPhone

iPhone users should:

  • check for carrier updates in the “General” – “About this device”;
  • select 4G in cellular data settings;
  • clear Safari browser history and cache;
  • turn off automatic app updates in the App Store to reduce network load.

What to do if there is no power?

During power outages it is worth:

  • switch to 3G, as 4G may be overloaded;
  • use a Wi-Fi router with a Power Bank for backup network access;
  • find a place with a better signal (for example, near a window or on an elevation);
  • restrict applications running in the background.

Additionally: using a VPN can improve your connection in some cases, as your Internet traffic will be redirected through other routes.

Following these tips, you can improve your mobile Internet speed, regardless of your carrier and smartphone model.
