Grocery shopping can turn into a real test for the wallet. And all because we often come home with a bunch of unnecessary things.

One man on TikTok decided to remind us why we tend to make unplanned purchases. User under the nickname sabrisubyshared in his video “six traps” that he says supermarkets use to make us buy more than we plan to.

“Six tricks supermarkets use to make you buy more”, – this is how he captioned his video, in which he explains exactly how these techniques work.

In the video, he goes to a supermarket and gradually reveals hidden marketing strategies.

“Here are the nasty secrets supermarkets are keeping from you. Have you ever wondered why fruits and vegetables greet you at the entrance? It's a psychological trick that triggers a health halo effect, forcing you to fill up your basket. Have you ever noticed why they put milk and eggs at the end, forcing you to walk through the aisles with tempting junk food, and you end up making unplanned purchases. Shopping carts have tripled in size over the past decade, and high-priced items are at eye level.” he explains.
