A better character than in the book

After two long years of absence,House of the Dragon– the first spin-off series off ofGame of Thrones whose plot takes place more than 180 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen – has just made its comeback with a highly anticipated season 2. À the time when we write, three episodes have already been released, and the quality is once again there. Writer George R.R. Martin, who also serves as a producer on the series, has praised the first two episodes of the season in a blog post.

One of the great strengths ofHouse of the Dragonis obviously its characters, played by an exceptional cast. In his blog post, George R.R. Martin particularly cites Emma D'Arcy, Tomm Glynn-Carney and Phia Saban, who respectively play Rhaenyra Tagaryen, Aegon II Targaryen and Helaena Targaryen . The author also considers that this last character is better than his romantic version!

The first season ofHOUSE OF THE DRAGON completely recreated the game. King Viserys, giving him a different story and much more depth than the happy, festive king I created. forFIRE AND BLOOD. I talked about it It was last year, so I won't repeat myself, but DAMN Paddy Considine was amazing in the role. (It should have won an Emmy.)

The creative team at HOTD did the same thing with Helaena. In the book, she is a plump, pleasant, and cheerful young woman, adored by the little people. A dragon rider since the age of 12, Helaena's greatest joy is flying through the sky on the back of her dragon Dreamfyre. None of her strangeness or her gift for prophecy were present in the book. These elements were born in the writers' play. But when I saw the version of Helaena in the series, I had a hard time disagreeing. Phia Saban's Helaena is a much richer and more fascinating character than the one I created for FIRE AND BLOOD, and in the episode “Rhaenyra the Cruel” you can't take your eyes off her.
