Homemade firecracker challenge: the Ministry of Internal Affairs urges children and parents to be careful

A trend is spreading online where children make homemade firecrackers. Law enforcement officers warn: this can lead to irreparable consequences.

This is stated in a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

They said that making homemade firecrackers can lead to chemical burns and scars. Such injuries can last a lifetime.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns children not to repeat such actions and refuse offers to participate in these challenges. Instead, parents are urged to be attentive to the content that their child views on social networks and explain the consequences of such dangerous experiments.

What preceded?

During the week, three boys aged 10, 11, and 15 were hospitalized in Lviv after a homemade explosive device exploded in front of their faces. They all made homemade firecrackers following step-by-step instructions from TikTok.

According to doctors, the children took a plastic bottle, water, a foil ball, and pipe cleaner and made explosives from them.

As explained by Halyna Sayan, head of the City Center for Thermal Trauma and Burn Surgery of the First Medical Association of Lviv, the pipe cleaner contained in these so-called firecrackers literally corrodes the children's skin. The eyes suffer the most, because the tissues there are the thinnest. Unfortunately, all the affected children will have scars on their faces.
