The Lebanese group Hezbollah has elected a new secretary general, Hashem Safi al-Din, following the death of its leader Hassan Nasralli.
Al Arabiya reports this, citing its own sources.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Safi al-Din, who previously headed the Hezbollah Executive Council, and was Nasrallah's deputy, is his cousin and the brother-in-law of former Iranian Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani. According to media reports, he resembles Nasrallah in appearance.
Born in 1964 in southern Lebanon. Like Nasrallah, he was educated in the cities of Najaf and Qom, and in 1982 became one of the founders of Hezbollah.
In 1994, he returned to Lebanon to head the Executive Council, replacing Nasrallah, who then became secretary general. Since then, Safi al-Din has been preparing for this role, although he remained in the shadows for years.
