HBO has announced the casting of actors for the new series about Harry Potter

The HBO TV channel has started casting for the main roles in the new TV adaptation of “Harry Potter”. Set to premiere in 2026, the series will have seven seasons, each based on a book by J.K. Rowling.

HBO Max has launched an open casting call for 9- to 11-year-olds to star in the new series based on the Harry Potter universe. The Guardian writes about it.

HBO Max, which is developing an original TV series about Harry Potter, which will be an exact adaptation of the books by J.K. Rowling, has officially announced an open casting call for children from Great Britain and Ireland for the main roles. A note about the children's ages presumably reveals the show's estimated production start date.

The series is officially looking for actors to play roles that will be between 9 and 11 years old as of April 2025. Applicants must be residents of the UK or Ireland for their applications to be considered, and of course they must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian, the description says.

So filming could start in seven months – that's how long it takes. it took in 2000 to find Daniel Radcliffe to star in the Harry Potter franchise when he was 11 years old.

At the first stage of the Open Call, candidates are invited to send two videos. In the first video, lasting up to 30 seconds, the little actors have to recite a short story or poem, but “nothing from Harry Potter”. In the second, lasting up to a minute, they are asked to tell about themselves, as well as about a family member, friend or pet with whom they are particularly close.

A new series about Harry Potter was announced last year by the parent company of HBO – Warner Bros. Discovery. The creators are preparing at least seven seasons, and each season of the series should be dedicated to a separate book from the series by J.K. Rowling.
