Green Lantern: the face of Hal Jordan

On December 5, 2024, fans will be able to discover the animated series Creature Commandos on Max, written by James Gunn and which will be the first production of the DCU developed by the American filmmaker, appointed by Warner Bros. Discovery as artistic director of DC Studios. While the director of The Suicide Squad is working hard on the Superman film, scheduled for release on July 9, 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting any news regarding the next DC films and series. Strongly inspired by the All-Star Supermanby British Grant Morrison, Superman will of course include several iconic characters from the Kryptonian's adventures, starting with the Man of Steel himself, but also other superheroes such as Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Supergirl (played by Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon) and Green Lantern.

The Green Lantern from the movie Supermanwill not be Hal Jordan; it will be Guy Gardner, a Lantern less known than the famous test pilot. Be careful, however, Hal Jordan will indeed appear in the DCU, since he will be one of the two main characters of the series Lanterns, produced by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers, Lost), comic book writer Tom King (Heroes in Crisis) and Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds). Compared to the first season of True Detective, unanimously considered a masterpiece, the series Lanterns begins to reveal itself in the columns of the Hollywood Reporter.

We thus learn that the actor Kyle Chandler has been chosen to play the role of Hal Jordan in the series. Revealed in particular for his role in the film King Kongby Peter Jackson (2005), the actor also starred in The Wolf of Wall Streetby Martin Scorsese (2013) and in the Godzilla saga of the Monsterverse. On television, his role in the series Friday Night Lights was praised and earned him a well-deserved Emmy Award for best actor. It should be remembered, however, that Kyle Chandler was not the studio's first choice; actor Josh Brolin, known among other things for his role as Thanos in the MCU, had been approached by HBO to play the role.

The Hollywood Reporter article also tells us more about the dynamics of the series: on Earth, Green Lantern Hal Jordan will train a young recruit, John Stewart, known as one of the first black superheroes in DC Comics history. The actor has not yet been found, but HBO is reportedly looking for a younger actor. The Reporter also tells us that filming is scheduled to begin in Atlanta in January 2025 and should end in June. We can therefore expect a release of the Lanterns series for 2026, which will be No doubt an extremely busy year for HBO, with the release of season 3 of House of the Dragon and probably the first season of the reboot series of Harry Potter. Wait and see!
