Google is expanding its AI footprint with the introduction of the Gemini 2.0 family. Introduced by Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind and Google’s head of AI, Gemini 2.0 promises significant improvements over the previous version, 1.5. Although currently in experimental preview, the new model is said to focus on efficiency and performance.
The most important feature of Gemini 2.0 is the ability to reproduce natural sound and images, as well as new multi-mode capabilities. These features will allow you to create AI bots that can perform tasks on your behalf.
Google has already unveiled Project Astra, an AI-powered robot that can identify objects, navigate the physical world, and even find lost items. CEO Hassabis said that with the release of Gemini 2.0, Astra’s capabilities will expand, and in 2025, the “era of AI-based assistants” will begin.
In addition to Astra, Google also offers other assistants that support Gemini 2.0. These include Project Mariner, a Chrome extension that controls a user’s web browser, and Jules, which finds and fixes problems in code for developers. The company will also launch a gaming assistant based on the Gemini 2.0 model.
Integrating Gemini 2.0 into Google services is an important part of the company's strategy. The model will be used in Google's artificial intelligence search engines. On the other hand, the company said that thanks to the new features it has already reached 1 billion people. The Gemini application will also be integrated into the Workspace package.
