Goodfood wants to deliver alcohol with its meals

After ready-to-cook meals, the Montreal-based company Goodfood now wants to be able to deliver alcohol to consumers.

“It’s something that we have always had in mind,” told the Newspaper the Chief Financial Officer, Philippe Adam.

In a recent entry in the Registry of Lobbyists, the company calls on the government to “allow online grocery stores, like their traditional competitors, to sell and deliver beer, wine and cider as part of grocery baskets. Quebec customers ”.

Management also wants delivery to be made by a third-party service, such as Uber Eats, Eva or DoorDash, as has been permitted since December for restaurateurs across Quebec. Mr. Adam confirms that his organization has already had discussions with officials in Quebec and Ontario on this subject. Ultimately, the company’s goal is to deploy this new service across Canada.

Wine or beer

“There are plenty of our subscribers who are already asking us. They want recommendations with meals, ”he says.

“At the moment, this is not allowed for us due to the law. We would like to deliver wine or beer. We are not talking about strong alcohol here, ”he continues.

Unlike grocery giants like Metro, Sobeys or Loblaw, Goodfood does not have a grocery store where consumers can shop. Customers must order online.

Goodfood says it wants, among other things, to promote local alcoholic products, if the government makes changes to the regulations.

“The goal is to give consumers the same choice as if they were dealing with other grocers,” replies Philippe Adam. “Of course, at Goodfood, we are very strong in local products. We would like to have a local angle, especially for beer, ”he adds.

In addition, Goodfood yesterday unveiled the financial results for its 1er quarter ended November 30. The company recorded sales of $ 91.4 million. This is a 62% growth compared to the same period last year. Despite these results, the company was unable to generate a net profit. The net loss was $ 2.6 million.
