The candidate for Mayor of Lima from Together for Peru, Gonzalo Alegría, denied that he was going to withdraw from the campaign after being denounced by his son for alleged physical, psychological and sexual violence.

Speaking to Canal N, he stated that he is a “decent” person and that the accusation against him is a “lie” and a “total montage” to which –according to what he stated- some means of communication have been lent.

“Not at all [I intend to withdraw from the campaign]. Lies cannot make decent people give in”, said when reiterating that the complaint of “alleged sexual morbidity” does not exist and is false.

“My son has psychological problems. I have done what I could considering that the divorce was when he was 9 years old and he stayed with his mother. I have done what I could and the mother practiced family estrangement ”, he asserted.

Alegría Varona's announcement came after the caucus of Democratic Change-Together for Peru demanded that the leaders of his party withdraw his candidacy for the Municipality of Lima.

Through a statement, he indicated that the permanence of Gonzalo Alegría in the electoral process would contravene his commitment to eradicate all forms of violence.

“We condemn the serious reported acts of violence; Therefore, we demand an exhaustive and prompt investigation from the Public Ministry to determine the corresponding responsibilities and sanctions”, he expressed.

“We ask the leaders of Together for Peru to immediately withdraw Mr. Alegría's candidacy, because his remaining in the electoral process would contravene his commitment to eradicate all forms of violence,” he added.< /p>
