In a few weeks, the sequel to the cult film directed by Ridley Scott will be released: Gladiator 2. 24 years after Russel Crowe entered the arena, it is Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal's turn to star in this new opus. While the production has not yet been released, the 86-year-old filmmaker is already teasing his next film project and, from you to us, we are skeptical …
At 86, Ridley Scott is a prolific director
Audiences have been waiting 24 years to see the sequel to the film Gladiator hit theatersdirected by Ridley Scott, released in June 2000 in France. This production with its perfect cast and careful direction, not to mention the exceptional special effects and the plot featuring an incredible story of revenge, will mark the history of Hollywood. With his masterpiece, the 86-year-old filmmaker won 5 Oscars. Very quickly the question of proposing a sequel to Gladiator came up and it was at the end of 2021 that Scott confirmed that Gladiator 2 was indeed on track.
All movie lovers know that Uncle Ridley is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood. It is not uncommon for the director to release two films in the same year. We know that he is currently working on a film that will be a biopic dedicated to the Bee Gees. For this project with Paramount, he surrounded himself with John Logan and Joe Penhall to write the screenplay and filming should begin next year in London and Miami.

But besides this film that will put the spotlight on this legendary disco group, Ridley Scott has another film project in the works and upon its announcement, we must admit that we remain skeptical to say the least. Indeed, while the sequel to Gladiator has not yet been released, the British director told The Hollywood Reporter that he was preparing to return to ancient Rome with… Gladiator 3!
For the American site, Scott explains that a third part for Gladiator is in the works and that it would be inspired by The Godfather II. A statement that corresponds to the one the filmmaker was able to make to our colleagues at Premiere:
I'm already playing with the idea of Gladiator 3. No, seriously! I lit the fuse.. The end of Gladiator 2 evokes that of The Godfather with Michael Corleone who finds himself with a job he didn't want and who asks himself 'and now Father, what do I do?'. The next one will therefore talk about a man who doesn't want to be where he is.
It seems that Paul Mescal, who plays Lucius in the sequel, is in the game because he admitted to having spoken about this project with Ridley Scott but on the condition that the story holds up. And you, do you think that a Gladiator 3 is a good idea?
In the meantime, Gladiator 2 is expected in theaters on November 13.
