Getting a job: 5 things that “age” your resume

Getting a job: 5 things that

Resume/Educational Hub

You can send out dozens of resumes every day and not receive a single invitation to an interview. And you can send just one – and hit the target every time.

Personnel specialists assure that an interesting, informative, complete resume increases your chances of receiving an invitation to an interview several times. CATBOSS talks about the things that age your resume.

5 things that “age” your resume:

1. It used to be important to emphasize knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and to indicate that you are an “advanced PC user”. Today, even children of younger grades know how to use a computer. These skills are obvious for most professions, so there is no need to specify them further.

2. “Communicability and stress resistance.” These words can be found in almost every resume among soft skills, even if the candidate does not actually have them. So, over time, sociability and stress resistance have lost their meaning and in most cases recruiters do not pay attention to them.

3. Personal information. An adequate employer should only be interested in the professional life of the candidate, his achievements and work experience during recruitment. If you are asked at an interview “Do you have children?”, “Do you plan to give birth again?”, “What year were you born?” etc., you need to run as far away from such an employer as possible.

4. One page size. It used to be thought that the perfect resume should fit on one page. If your experience and achievements stretch over two pages, you should not delete the important information in order to squeeze all the information into one. It is also not necessary to indicate all places of work. To make your CV more relevant, mention achievements and experience within the last 5-7 years.

5. It's a mistake to think that a variety of fonts and colors will help you impress a recruiter. You will certainly stand out from other candidates, but maybe not in the best way.

It is also important to send your resume in the correct formats, it is better to save your resume in PDF format.
