Germany wants to provide Ukraine with additional military aid worth 400 million euros

Germany plans to approve additional military aid to Ukraine this year in the amount of approximately 400 million euros.

This was reported by Reuters, citing a letter from the German Finance Ministry, which was obtained by the agency.

These funds are in addition to approximately 8 billion euros allocated for Ukraine in 2024. The aid will be used to purchase ammunition, combat vehicles, drones and protective equipment.

“Given the ongoing deterioration of the military situation in Ukraine, there is a serious risk that Ukraine could fail in its defense campaign without a significant increase in material support,” the letter says.

The Finance Ministry, at the request of the Defense Ministry, is asking the budget committee of the lower house of parliament to approve the additional spending.

If the budget committee approves the additional funds next week, the total amount of German military aid to Ukraine in 2024 will amount to 8.4 billion euros.

In total, Germany has provided or committed to provide military aid to Ukraine in the coming years worth around 28 billion euros.

In 2022-2023, the country has provided around 6.6 billion euros in aid.

More than 10,000 Ukrainian troops have undergone military training in Germany. The cost of this training is approximately 282 million euros.

On September 19, Germany provided Ukraine with a new military aid package with Leopard 1 tanks, anti-aircraft guns, all-terrain vehicles, drones and 155 mm ammunition.
