Germany sets record for electricity consumption from “green” sources – 54%

In Germany, it is expected that this year the share of “green” electricity in gross electricity consumption will increase to a new maximum – 54%.

As “European Truth” writes with reference to Spiegel, this was reported by the office of the Working Group on Renewable Energy Statistics at the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA).

54% – This is 1.5 percentage points more than the previous year, the office said.

In 2023, a record high of 52.5% was already reached. This meant that more than half of Germany's electricity consumption was covered by renewable energy sources for the first time.

In 2022, this share was still 46.3%.

According to the data, electricity production from renewable sources, primarily wind and solar power, is expected to increase by four percentage points this year to around 285 terawatt hours.

The agency will present the final figures for 2024 in March.
