Germany cannot increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine because of the military threats that come from modern Russia, agreeing to a possible weakening of the Bundeswehr, writes the German edition DW.
According to the official representative of the German Ministry of Defense, the ministry rejected the proposal of the deputies of the Bundestag to supply Ukraine with more weapons and, if necessary, to agree to the weakening of the Bundeswehr. According to him, Berlin cannot take such risks.
"Indeed, we must be prepared for the fact that (Russian President – ed.) Putin will take advantage of any weakness and even a temporary gap in NATO's defense readiness”, – he noted.
Earlier, BAGNET reported that Bundestag deputies from the ruling coalition called for increased arms supplies to Ukraine, even if this temporarily weakens German army.
And Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, commenting on the supply of weapons, noted that Berlin either helps or abandons Ukrainians to their own devices.
