Olaf Scholz evaded in Berlin from the question of providing Ukraine with western battle tanks, writes the S & uuml; ddeutsche Zeitung.
“The position that the German government took initially and which will remain our position in the future remains, namely: Germany cannot act on its own.” ,” Scholz said.
According to him, Germany supported Ukraine very comprehensively and together with the allies.
“We have also delivered very effective weapons that are important in the current hostilities,” — said Scholz, speaking to the press along with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
Scholz mentioned Gepard, Panzerhaubitze 2000 anti-aircraft guns, multiple rocket launchers and the Iris-T anti-aircraft system.
The federal government also stressed that they would make a decision on the possible supply of battle tanks to Ukraine only in close consultation with the allies.
“The Chancellor said several times that it would not be possible to act independently in this matter, Germany would not here alone,” said government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann in Berlin on Monday.
