The Georgian Parliament has approved a bill banning “LGBT propaganda” in the country. This was reported by Publika and local Telegram channels, as well as by Radio Liberty.
84 deputies voted for the package of documents “On Family Values and the Protection of Minors”, and no one voted against. The opposition is boycotting the work of the outgoing parliament and did not attend the session.

In addition, MPs banned queer-themed gatherings, including the popular “March of Dignity” and festivals, which have been attacked by homophobes in recent years.
The bills were sharply criticized in the European Union, which Georgia is a candidate for joining. International organizations are also concerned that in their current form, the bills will contribute to discrimination against LGBT+ in the country.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili is expected to veto the bills, but the ruling “Georgian Dream” has enough seats to override it. Elections for a new parliament will be held in Georgia on October 26. According to polls, the Georgian Dream is again in the lead.
