>> go well with borscht/timolina
The International Association of Sommeliers (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale) surprised its supporters with an unusual combination of Ukrainian food and drinks. This time, experts advise which drinks are better to match with your favorite borscht.
In its latest post on its Facebook page, ASI shared recommendations for pairing Ukrainian borscht with various drinks. They offered options for both alcohol lovers and those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks.
In particular, sommeliers advised to enjoy borscht with a full-bodied red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, which perfectly complements the hearty taste of the dish. It is also recommended to try Ukrainian wines, in particular those made from Saperavi or Bastardo grapes.
In addition to wine, ASI recommends complementing borscht with “a glass of iced local “vodka” or kvass, and for non-alcoholic drink lovers – zbynym, uzvar or spicy honey drink.
It should be noted that Ukrainian borscht is part of intangible cultural of UNESCO heritage. This emphasizes its special importance for the Ukrainian people.
ASI continues to impress its supporters with non-standard advice and recommendations. This time, they showed how to choose drinks for your favorite borscht, taking into account both the taste characteristics of the dish and the cultural heritage. Don't forget to experiment and share your experiences with ASI!
